A media briefing was held in the Jaffna District Fisherman Co-operative Society Union's Federation in Jaffna yesterday.

Speaking to the media the chairman of  the society Mr.S.Navaratnam stated that the fisherman in the Jaffna district are facing many problems.
The most spoken problem was about the Indian fisherman coming into Sri Lankan waters.

He also stated that the fisherman from India can't cross the border, which is one km away from Kacha Theevu.
In 1974 an agreement was made by the Indian and Srilankan governments that the Indian fisherman can only come to kacha Theevu to dry their fishing nets and for the Antony's Church feast.
But in the 1976 agreement these points were not stated,he said.

The Indian fisherman use crawler boats for their fishing. So if the Indian fisherman use those boats in the Lankan waters,in five years there wont be any fishes to catch in the
 Sri Lankan waters.
Many protests were held but no action has been taken yet.
The Minister of Fisheries should take this into consideration and take immediate action.
